BBA Editorial: Vogue India, July 2012

The real gem in Vogue India's July issue is THIS editorial "Let The Games Begin". LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

Diana Penty Vogue India July 2012

OK so while you know I love Diana Penty and Vogue India, some of these shots should not have been included. They are either really good or really bad. I would have liked something more bohemian, instead of another bollywood-star-by-the-water. *sigh*

Turban + Menswear: Will we see it on the streets?

I usually don't cover menswear but it was hard to escape Jean Paul Gaultier's latest SS2013 collection. The Indian-inspired collection made me think: would men (in particular non-Indians) wear Turbans as a fashion item? I, personally, would love to see it but it's going to take some rather metro, fashion-forward trendsetters (in NYC perhaps?) to set this off on the streets.  Then again, if men dress for women then we might be seeing it soon because the Turban is looking rather sexy.

Chanel Pre-Fall 2012 featured Turbans for men.

Jean Paul Gaultier Resort 2013

Like ummm WOAH. So I discovered this while looking at their Indian-inspired Menswear collection (coming in the next post) and I just fell in love with every look. It's crisp and fresh yet chic and sophisticated. The nautical and le smoking themes are paired with flowy Indian draping. I can't help but think the Turban really completed the look. Love.

TURBANISTAS Part Three: High-Fashion Headwear

To say the turban is coming back would imply it went away. If you haven't seen the Turban in action on fashionistas, then you must be a new reader to BBA (welcome!). We've covered it in our "TURBANISTAS" posts featuring Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Moss. We've highlighted Sheikha Mozah, our fashion turban muse. And we've even shown Beyonce rock out with it. Now, the turban remains in the spotlight with a slew of new celebrities to add to the list. The trend has morphed into scarves, African-inspired headwear, headbands and even jewelry. This weekend we're all about headwear so get ready! My new shoot (featuring yours truly) with New York photographer Cathrine Westergaard also profiles the Turban. And, we'll look at menswear too. Exciting!

Kylie was one of the first to embrace the trend back in the 90s.

I can't help wonder if an Indian designer does it, it just feels unoriginal. But Sabyasachi nails it.

For Indians, we grew up with the trend. Here's Sridevi in the 90s rocking a headscarf.

And the head jewels are - naturally- here too...

Bibhu Mohapatra Resort 2013

This might be my favorite Bibhu collection yet! While he included some of his signature evening gowns, it was nice to see the Indian NY-based designer step into more young, fresh territory.
